I am new here and a very frustrated music professor. I have created a nearly ideal online music listening identification quiz using a demo of Wondershare QuizCreator (sameshow.com), have successfully exported it in both SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004, added both types as SCORM Content through the Build menu (after struggling forever to find that you have to make the SCORM tool available in order to connect it to the gradebook), repeatedly uploaded them as separate assignments and attached them to the Grade Center with a variety of options selected (though perhaps not every possible combination), and have successfully taken the various quiz assignments as a test student.

My problems are that I can find no grades/points from the objective multiple response portion or information from the short essay, and it seems that no quiz related data are attached to the gradebook or recorded anywhere on BB that I am aware of. I was able to see the number of attempts for one of the SCORM 2004 versions when I selected the tracking option, but still no grades or any other data related to the quiz. I was also able to go back in as the student and see my results.

How do I get my quiz to post points from the objective portion of the exam? Where can I find the quiz results that are available to the "student" when he returns to the quiz? Why do the number of points in Blackboard seem to repeatedly default to 100 even though this is a 10 point quiz and defined as such in the quiz and when I connect it to Blackboard? How well does SCORM content actually work in Blackboard Learn 9.0? What are some other options for posting this kind of content with simple reporting mechanisms? Does SoftChalk SCORM content work better on Blackboard?

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!

OK, I got it to score the objective portion using SCORM 2004 and automatically put the grade in the grade center. It may have been that the previous SCORM 2004 trial did not enter the score because it was a second attempt for a quiz that only allows one where the first was botched by a bad navigation option (Flow rather than Choice).

However, I still cannot see the results of the short essay portion, except through the Web export (not SCORM), zipping up the file, then posting it as an interactive package, and then having the results sent through email (with username and email entered by the student rather than Blackboard), which requires a manual entry of all the grades into the grade center. One of my colleagues seems to think that SCORM (at least within the Blackboard grade center) will not report any questions that are not objective with a predetermined point value. Does anyone have any thoughts or insight on this issue?

So, the big questions are:

Is there a way to view the results of a SCORM output file in Blackboard 9.0, with a similar kind of report as the email results from a Web-based publish that includes short essay answers? Are the answers/results of a subjective portion of a SCORM exam stored somewhere, and can they be viewed on Blackboard?

The good news is that I have a workaround for this exam and a tool that accomplishes in an online environment what I have been unable to do previously!

Hi Karl,

I have been using SCORM for some time but not in the specific Bb 9.0 product.  I would only use SCORM in Blackboard for things that can be graded by the module, so that is true statement.  I spoke with a 3rd party vendor once who was working to get his tool to output SCORM to Blackboard and WebCT, and other products and he told me that always had to tweak it sometimes to get it to work with each different LMS.  I am not familiar with the tool you are using, but I do know that Soft Chalk has been reported to work with Bb, but before you head down that road, simply ask them if it does.

I have not seen any posts on the Bb disucssions about Soft Chalk and Bb not working anyway.

I used Studymates files in one of the course to build interactive pieces in one of the course. I noticed that unless the students click on QUIT after they completd the scorm content (Quiz) the score is not entered into Gradebook. If the students close the browser (by clicking the X) without quiting the program, the score is not recorded in the gradebook. Hope this helps.

Hi Sailaja,

Think of SCORM objects as being similar to a web form. If the student fills in a web form but never clicks the submit button and only closes the browser window containing the form, then the data in the form will not be written to the server. The same applies with a SCORM object. Closing the object or the window containing the object will not write the data to the grade book. Just like a quiz, the students needs to click a Finish/Submit/Quit button to set in motion the underlying code that actually sends the values to the grade book.

It's not just a StudyMate SCORM issue but one that can occur with any SCORM object.

Cheers,

Bob
